Getting Started
What is a digital business card?
Learn what a digital business card is, how it works in Wallet, and how other people can save your contact details by scanning a QR code.
A digital business card is the modern version of a traditional paper business card. Instead of handing over a printed card, you show a QR code on your smartphone. The person you are speaking with scans it and saves your contact details directly on their own device.
With DigiCard Pro, you create a digital business card as a Wallet pass for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. This keeps it available on your smartphone at all times.
The Wallet pass is the card you save on your smartphone. The QR code on it transmits your contact details.
How it works
The basic flow is simple:
- You enter the contact details you want to share in our card generator.
- DigiCard Pro creates Wallet passes for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.
- You save the card in your smartphone Wallet.
- When you want to share your contact details with someone, you open the pass on your smartphone.
- The other person scans the QR code and can save the contact.
This makes the card reusable. You cannot forget or run out of printed cards, and there is no risk of mistakes from manually typing contact details.
What is stored on the card?
In general, it is up to you which information you want to store on the card. Common details include:
- name
- company
- position
- email address
- phone numbers
- website
You also have many other options. For example, you can add social media links or an address. Only the information you enter in the card generator is shared through the QR code. If a field stays empty, it is not included in the contact details.
What the Wallet pass does
The Wallet pass is the card you save in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. This gives you quick access to your digital business card without having to search for files, images, or emails.
The visible pass usually shows the most important card details and the QR code. It is designed to be opened quickly during a conversation, at an event, or after an appointment.
What the QR code does
The QR code contains your contact details. This can vary depending on the card type. Our classic contact card contains a vCard file. A vCard is a standard format for contact details. Smartphones and contact apps understand this format and can use it to create a new contact.
Tip: As an alternative to a vCard, you can also link your LinkedIn profile directly in the QR code.
Because the vCard is stored directly in the QR code, scanning works quickly and, most importantly, also works without an internet connection or with a poor connection.
The decision whether to save the contact still belongs to the person scanning the QR code. Without their confirmation, the card is not automatically added to their address book.
Static cards and editable cards
We offer two different options when creating your digital business card: the static card and the editable card.
A static card is created as a file at the time of purchase and is, in a sense, "digitally printed." This means the information or design cannot be changed afterward.
With an editable card, you stay flexible. You can change both all contact details and the design at any time after purchase through our website, even if you have already added the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. In that case, the card updates automatically directly in your Wallet. You do not need to add it again.
Both card types can be used without a time limit.
Digital business cards are often used for many years. If contact details, position, phone number, or branding change, an editable card is helpful because you do not need to buy a new card. You can simply update the existing card.
When does a digital business card make sense?
A digital business card makes sense if you regularly meet people and want to share your contact details quickly, accurately, and professionally.
Typical use cases include:
- networking events
- trade fairs
- sales meetings
- consulting
What a digital business card is not
A digital business card is not just a screenshot or an image. With DigiCard Pro, the card is generated as a Wallet pass and therefore fits seamlessly into iOS or Google Wallet. The advantage is that you can manage the card centrally in one place and access it at any time.
