# Card Templates

> Card templates are intended for use without an account. If you already have an account, use [card groups](https://www.digicard.pro/help/understand-card-groups/index.md) instead. We recommend card groups because they let you manage Editable Cards from one place.

## When should I use a card template?

Use a card template when you want to create cards repeatedly with the same basic details without setting up an account.

## Where is the template stored?

The template is stored on the server. Your browser only stores access to it. That access isn't available on another device or after you clear the browser data.

An unused template is deleted automatically after 90 days. Saving the template or successfully creating a card from it restarts the period.

## What happens to cards created from the template?

The template applies its [shared defaults, variable fields, and locked fields](https://www.digicard.pro/help/understand-defaults-variable-and-locked-fields/index.md) while you create a card. The card is independent afterward. Later template changes don't affect cards already created.

If you later create an account or sign in in the same browser, click **Claim as card group**. This creates a new card group from the template. The original template and its saved browser access are then deleted. Cards already created from the template remain independent and aren't linked to the new group.
