# Fixed and Editable Cards

The card variant determines whether you can change the details and design after purchase. A fixed card stays as purchased. You can update an Editable Card later.

## Compare the two variants

A fixed card works well when the details and design are final. Choose an Editable Card if information such as a phone number, job title, or branding may change later.

| | Fixed card | Editable Card |
| ---------------------------------------------- | ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| Edit after purchase | No | Yes |
| Change contact details and design | No | Yes |
| Update an existing Apple or Google Wallet pass | No changes are possible | Normally updates automatically after you save |
| Stay connected to a card group | No | Yes, while the card remains linked |

You set the variant before purchase. You can't switch it afterward. Adding a fixed card to an account doesn't make it editable.

## What happens to the Apple or Google Wallet pass?

When you save a change to an Editable Card, DigiCard Pro rebuilds its QR code and Wallet pass with the new details. A pass already saved to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet should refresh automatically. You normally don't need to add it again.

A fixed card has no later update path. Its Wallet pass stays as it was created after purchase.

## Does an Editable Card use a dynamic QR code?

No. Both variants encode their content directly in the QR code. An Editable Card doesn't rely on a redirect link to support later changes.

For a Contact Card, the QR code contains a vCard and works without an internet connection. Saving an edited Contact Card creates a new static QR code inside the existing Wallet pass.

The card type also stays fixed after purchase. You can't convert a Contact Card into a LinkedIn Profile Card or the other way around.

## Do I need an account?

You don't need an account to purchase either variant. You can update an Editable Card with an email address through a time-limited edit link. If the card is already assigned to an account, editing by email link may be disabled through that account or a linked card group. To edit a card without an email address or a LinkedIn Profile Card, you need an account.

## What remains fixed on an Editable Card?

The purchased variant and card type can't change. If the card is linked to a card group, the group may also control individual fields. You can't change those fields on the card itself.
